An inspiring movie...

We watched the second movie for this subject during tutorial entitled, ‘The Ron Clark Story’. It is based on a true story. The actor is a famous sitcom actor from ‘Friends’, Matthew Perry. It’s a totally different role for him to act in this movie as a devoted teacher. If I was to give one word after watching this movie, I would say ‘patience’. The teacher was so patient. I saw him losing it only once that he wanted to throw the girl from the window. It was just in his thought but I don’t think anyone could be as patient as him.
The Ron Clark Story follows the inspiring tale of an energetic, creative and idealistic young teacher who leaves his small North Carolina hometown to teach in a New York City public school. Through his passionate use of special rules for his classroom, highly innovative teaching techniques and an undying devotion to his students and helping them cope with their problems, Clark is able to make a remarkable difference in the lives of his students Even when he is almost overcome by pneumonia, Clark continues to work with his students, hoping that he can raise their test scores to an acceptable level, or possibly even higher. This movie is a must watch movie especially for all the teachers and teachers to be. It shows how patient a teacher needs to be. This movie inspired me in a way it made me to think of the approach I will use towards my students if they are weak or rebellious. The most interesting part of Mr. Ron Clark’s teaching was he rapped a song to name the 42 presidents of United States so that the students can remember the names. The best part, he danced for it and danced with the students. He might do some childish things to make the students enjoy but he knows he is in control and the student’s starts to love and respect him throughout the movie. Can I be the next Ron Clark? I will give my best shot.

  1. What you say is absolutely right. His patience is beyond our expectation. I'm impressed with his ways of teaching. How he controls his classroom, copes with the rebellious students, brings down his students' affective filter as well as motivates them make me fall in love with him. This kind of teacher is a teacher who deserves a place in heaven. He plays his role not only as a teacher but also as a parent and a friend. That's what a teacher supposes to do, be there with the students. By giving them homework only is not an effective way of teaching. In fact, not many teachers like him in this world. Take Mr. Clark as an example, it will be a good start for us to learn how to become a good teacher in the nearer future. =)

  2. very inspiring movie where it taught us how important patience for a teacher where this is the most highlighted thing in this movie hoping teachers who watch this movie adapt this characteristic in their teaching career. This movie also told us that unique or creative way of carry out a lesson would make students interest towards the lesson and make them able to absorb the information easily and able to store in their long term memory. Nice movie every teacher should watch it.

  3. Hi,

After watching the same movie, I respect Mr. Clark for his perseverance, optimism and hard work too. His patience is almost unbelievable when the movie shows the way his students treated him.

In addition, I also agree with you that Mr. Clark’s creativity in handling students’ learning difficulties is the most interesting part of his teaching. For example, when his students had difficulties in memorizing the names of 42 presidents of United States, he tried to alleviate their misery by composing a song about the 42 names, in order to ease the process of memorization. At the end, his effort and patience did not go in vain, as all his students passed the test and even scored better than the Honour Class.

Apparently, this movie aims to create awareness in future teachers and present teachers about the virtue of perseverance.

    Bitter patience bears sweet fruits.

  4. I agree that having patience in the teaching profession is very important. I admire Mr. Clark's optimism and creativity especially creating those rules for the students. It is hard to control troublesome students and I think they became this way because of teacher's low expectation of them. They are from the last class and not many would think highly of them and these students would feel that they aren't good enough thus resulting in poor behavior. This is what we called self-fulfilling prophesy. As future teachers, we should not have this preconceive notion as it will do more harm than good.

  6. This movie is a must watch movie especially for all the teachers. This movie inspired me in a way it made me to think of the approach I will use towards my students. As a good teacher, we must find a way to help the students. Nothing can stop us to be a good role model to the students because for some of them, they need our help to be success.
